Heritage Tour

This relaxed week combines leisurely touring and sightseeing with easy walking. The emphasis during this holiday is on enjoying the amazing views with help from the minibus, and visiting the most interesting and unusual places, while learning about the history and heritage of this beautiful region. This holiday offers a wonderful opportunity to visit some extraordinary locations, learn about the way of life, sample local produce, and relax while enjoying the warm hospitality of your guide and hosts.

The Drome Valley and Ardeche

The Drome department marks a climatic boundary between the alps and the mediterranean. We are able to profit from the breathtaking mountain scenery to the north and east, the soothing Provencale sunlight, clear blue skies and idyllic views to the south, and the dramatic Rhone valley vineyards to the west.

It’s not only about the spectacular scenery, we learn about the proud heritage and history of the region. We are within striking distance of the extraordinary Grotte Chauvet, where 36,000 year old cave paintings were discovered only 25 years ago. Up in the Vercors National Park, we learn about the ‘Maquis’ or French Resistance, and their role in the second world war. Further south in Grignan we visit the beautiful chateau in a glorious setting, and through the week visit a number of beautiful, ancient villages steeped in history.

Your bilingual guide has lived most of his life in the Drome, but his Irish accent completes his story, and he will share his wealth of knowledge with you throughout the week.
